ANSWERS
A: Histopatholgical description:
Skin: In the superficial dermis, large round (approximately 1mm diameter) structures are present with a thick hyalin capsule containing large cord-loke bacophilic material surrounding an acellular center (ctyomegalic dermal fibroblasts containing viral inclusions). The center of these structures is filled with a fine web-like, proteinaceous material with disseminated spherical basophilic material. Surrounding the cytomegalic dermal fibroblasts is a severe infiltration of round cells (lymphocytes and macrophages), hyerpaemia and multifocal haemorrhage. There is mild, diffuse epidermal hyperplasia with marked spongiosis associated with mild focal exocytosis of round cells.
B: Morphological diagnosis:
Dermatitis, mononuclear, severe, diffuse, associated with cytomegalic fibroblasts with viral inclusions.
C: Disease: Lymphocytosis
D: Aetiology: Lymphocytosis (Iridovirus)
