Histopathological Case

QUESTIONS:


A: Give a histopathological description
B: What is the morphological diagnosis?
C: Name the disease and the aetiological agent.

 

ANSWERS:


A: Histopathological description
The epidermis exhibited moderate irregular hyperplasia without hyperkeartosis.  The number of hair follicles is reduced.  Epithelial cells of the epidermis and the remaining hair follicles showed hydropic and ballooning degeneration and numerous cytoplasmic, acidophilic inclusions, which were surrounded by a clear halo.

 

B: Morphological diagnosis?
Severe, subacute dermatitis charcaterized myxoma cells and ballooning degeneration of epithelial cells of the epidermis and hair follicles with intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies.

 

C: Name the disease and the aetiological agent.
Myxomatosis; poxvirus genus leporipoxvirus
