Dog skin: Squamous cell carcinoma

Detailed information

Animal: Dog, large poodle, 11 years, male.

Organ: Skin

History: A skin tumour was removed from the left side of the chest.

Histological findings: An aggressively proliferating squamous epithelium formed numerous concentric keratin nodules (horn pearls) in the dermis. The overlying epidermis was ulcerated, and although the cells were largely well differentiated, some cells showed distinct atypia and infiltrated local stroma and the deep dermal connective tissue.

Diagnosis: Squamous cell carcinoma

Biopsy performed by: Gjermund Gunnes
