Animal: Postweaning pig.
Organ: Skin.
Findings: Subcutaneous edema of the nose bridge.
Name of the disease: Edema disease.
Comments: This distinct entity in post weaning pigs is caused by Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC). The endothelial cells are targeted by the Stx2e toxin causing increased permeability of the vascular wall resulting in edema.
