●    About Liverpool

The University of Liverpool is delighted to host the ECVP/ESVP Summer School in Veterinary Pathology. Liverpool is a great city to visit with many sights to see from the architectural wonders of the Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals, to the musical heritage of the Beatles, home to the famous Cavern Club, and many TV dramas and movies have been filmed on the streets of Liverpool. Liverpool is home to two Premier League football clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton. There is also a wealth of, mostly free, museums. As such Liverpool is a busy city during the peak summer tourist season with lots to see and do.
●    University of Liverpool - School of Veterinary Science
The Vet School was established in 1904 at a time when the port of Liverpool had the largest cattle trade in Europe and used many hundreds of horses in the transport of goods to and from the dock. The vet school was initially funded by the shipowners of Liverpool “engaged in the transport of cattle, the Cartowners, Cowkeepers and other Associations”. Since then, it has led the way in veterinary research, care and education, and nurtured a global alumni community.

●    Travel details to the venue

The venue for the summer school is the University of Liverpool’s Vet School, located on the Liverpool campus in Waterhouse block J (building 359 highlighted with red circle and arrow on the campus map below). There is accommodation available on the university campus in the Crown Place Halls of Residence (yellow circle and arrow), which is a short 5-10 -minute walk from the venue (red dotted line). This is located in the City of Liverpool with all amenities close by and is only a 15–20-minute walk into the city centre with many of the main tourist attractions within a 30-minute walk.

●    Getting to Liverpool
There are two main international airports that have regular connections to Liverpool via public transport. These are Liverpool John Lennon Airport (approximately 7 miles from the University campus) and Manchester Airport (Approximately 35 miles from the University campus).
From Liverpool John Lennon Airport: There is a regular bus (number 86A to Liverpool ONE), take this bus for 34 stops (approximately 20 minutes) until you reach Upper Parliament Street/Mulgrave Street stop. This is run by the Arriva bus company. You can purchase the tickets on the bus from the driver either by cash, card, or contactless. A single bus ticket is capped at £3 per journey.
Then it is a 5–10-minute walk to the University Campus with views of both the Anglican and Metropolitan Cathedrals. You will walk through part of the Georgian quarter which is regularly used in period dramas on the TV and in films.

From Manchester Airport: there are a couple of options for public transport, bus or train.
Bus: The National Express company run regular buses from Manchester Airport direct to the University of Liverpool, Brownlow Hill. Bus number 170 (approximately 1 hour). The tickets can be purchased in the Manchester Airport bus station; however, if possible, it is much cheaper to buy them in advance online from as little as £3.60 with a £1.50 booking fee (https://www.nationalexpress.com/en).
Train: there is a regular direct train from Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street (approximately 1 hour 25 minutes) and other trains that require 1 change either at Manchester Oxford Road or Manchester Piccadilly. The costs vary depending on availability and when you book, mostly cost between £18-£28. Trainline is a useful website and app to book tickets (https://www.thetrainline.com/).
From other international airports: There are regular trains and buses into Liverpool from London. Most trains will terminate at Liverpool Lime Street Station. If you have any questions about travel from a certain airport, please contact Hayley (hcrosbyd@liverpool.ac.uk) for advice and we will try our best to help.
Trains: Liverpool Lime Street Station is the closest train station to the venue and takes 10-15 minutes to walk (15 minutes from the station to the venue as uphill and 10 minutes from the venue to the station as downhill, see map below). If you have luggage and don’t feel like walking uphill with it, there is a taxi rank at the train station. This is less than a mile and would only take approximately 5 minutes in a taxi (depending on traffic) so wouldn’t be too expensive (prices vary depending on the time of day). See map below for route from Liverpool Lime Street Train Station to the Venue.

Registration

Registration for the Summer School 2025 is being handled by our administrative assistant, Bernadeta Kieromin at the ECVP Office. Registration is open until 19 May 2025.

To register click on this link  (https://form.jotform.com/250582091624354)

Registration fees
ECVP-registered residents, ESVP Members, ECVP/ACVP Diplomates:          € 420
non-ECVP-registered residents, non-ESVP/ECVP/ACVP members        € 685

Registration fees will allow you to participate in all lectures and practical classes. All lecture information will be shared with the participants and available for downloading prior to/during the Summer School.
Diplomates may attend selected sessions of interest; however, in order to reduce the administrative burden, the same registration fees apply (allowing access to all sessions).
Upon completion of registration, we will ask all registered participants to transfer the registration fee to secure their place.
Please note that places for the summer school are limited, and priority is given to registered resident trainees in anatomic pathology. For this reason, assessment of all registrations is necessary before confirmation of a place at the course, and payment arrangements are only to be made after confirmation of a place at the summer school. This will be communicated by e-mail from the ECVP office soon after the 19 May 2025.
In case of cancellation, a €50 administrative fee will be applied.

Financial support
A small number of stipends covering the registration fee (€420) will be available to participants whose financial circumstances make it difficult to attend the event in person without further financial support. Registration as an ECVP resident or ESVP membership (or confirmed application) is a requirement for eligibility. The deadline for stipend applications is 19 May 2025 but please ensure that you register first.

To apply for a stipend, follow this link (https://form.jotform.com/250582897137367)
